99 Days of Laney MacGuire

99 Days of Laney MacGuire

Because many of you are familiar with the working title...

Laney just had the worst year of her life, and no, she doesn’t want to talk about it. Not to her friends at school, not to her mother, and definitely not to the therapist her mother makes her see.

But in order to go spend the summer at her dad’s lake resort, she has to strike a deal that will make her mom and Dr. Andrews happy: she must keep a blog chronicling her life over the 99 days of summer. She doesn’t like the idea, but it is way better than staying home with Mom and her newest husband, so she agrees.

Laney can’t wait to get to her father’s resort. It’s a place where time stands still and nothing ever changes – the perfect thing for Laney after the year she just had. But when she gets there, she discovers the lodge  isn’t quite as unchangeable as she once thought.

***

This book was inspired entirely by my memory of a couple particular events in my life. While these events (many that took place in the Summer of 1997 – hence the working title – and a major one that did not) are still at the base of the story, it took a completely different shape as I was writing.

99 Days is the first contemporary I tried my hand at. It’s a completely different beast, and it’s been so fun writing it. I didn’t outline the rough draft, so now I am in the process of picking it apart and planning where it will go in edits.
