Extended Proofreading / Line-by-Line Editing

Includes everything in the basic proofread plus editing for clarity, sense, word choice, redundancies, continuity, general structure, and inconsistencies in narrative voice.

Submissions Package

If I were to pick your book up in the store, would I buy it? Send me your query letter and first twenty pages, and I’ll let you know.

I will read your query letter as if it were the back of the book, tell you whether it worked to get me to open the book or not (and why), and then move on to the pages. I will read until I would put the book back on the shelf if I were in the bookstore. I will tell you why I stopped reading and any thoughts on how to improve your opening.
  • This is a flat-rate service of $35
FREE query help

Query help is always, always free. Send your query to me and I will tell you whether it worked to hook me or not and give you suggestions on how to improve. You may resend your query as many times as you feel helpful.

How it Works:

There are two ways for us to work together:

Option One (Preferred):

I do edits on a hard copy of your manuscript, then you enter them into the computer.

In this case, you would print off your manuscript (or pay to have a one-off copy printed cheaply at Hulu or a similar site) and send it to me. I would mark all my edits and suggestions on the pages and send it back. I cover all return postage.

This is the better option for two reasons: 1) it is easier to catch all the minor typos and errors on paper than on a screen, and 2) having YOU input the corrections helps you see what errors you are making so you can improve your writing in the future.

Option Two:

You email me your manuscript and I do the edits electronically. Minor fixes (typos, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, grammar issues, etc) I fix right in your manuscript. With any larger changes or suggestions, I make a note in the document and you can decide whether you want to take my advice or not. It is always your prerogative to say NO to your editor.

When editing electronically, I use Abiword, because I like to support open-source software. Abiword saves in .doc format, so it is compatible with Microsoft Word.

All submissions packages and query letters are to be submitted electronically.

Let’s work together to make your project the best it can be. Contact me today!
