Both, actually. :) I used the <a href="http://themeshaper.com/thematic/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Thematic framework</a>, and then customized it to my liking.

Go for it! I am all for people supporting smaller, local daries and creameries. I think that's a much better route to go than just buying organic. Because the people at that dairy are right: while organic does oftentimes mean quality, we have been erroneously led to believe that organic EQUALS quality. I think you'd be better off getting milk from a small local place whose values you know than a big organic dairy.

I was actually just reading about this a week or two ago... Bear and I have been buying organic (Horizon, specifically) for a year and a half, and we had no idea about all this. I'm not sure which article is more accurate, but what I read said sick cows on organic farms at times get so sick from lack of antibiotics, they end up being killed, and that organic dairies must wait something like 12-18 months after a cow goes off antibiotics to use their milk? I'm not 100% on those facts. Anyway, we've been considering getting home delivery of local milk from a smallish dairy franchise. Their reasoning for not going "organic" can be found here: http://oberweis.com/web/productfaq.asp

That makes total sense. It makes me happy to see so many more non-organic dairies turning away from growth hormones!

Interestingly enough, my parents were hugely into organic milk because of me. I have a hormone imbalance (shocking, I know) and organic milk was doing me huge favors. Turns out it's because those cows aren't given growth hormones, not the no-antibiotics bit. A local dairy here doesn't use growth hormones but does use antibiotics and I'm getting all the same benefits. Point is- I get to buy local and be healthier without the nonsense.

Oh, dear. I mean, I grew up on a farm for the first 4 years of my life and it was a great way to spend my early childhood. The isolation and peacefulness did wonders for my imagination. That being said, it wasn't as if I did any work around the farm so I do have a romantic image of it.

Best of luck to you, Rachel!
