A while back, the lovely Jamie Harrington put out a call for beta readers for her new book. Being the wonderful, helpful person that I am (okay, okay…I really wanted to read it real bad! Have you read Jamie’s blog?), I volunteered.
When I popped my email open on Monday, her shiny little manuscript was waiting to be read. I promptly printed it off so I could get to work. Then I discovered something:
I am a terrible beta reader. (I kid, Jamie! Don’t revoke the Beta privileges.
)
The problem I am having here is: I freakin’ love this book. So, while I should be making notes to tell Jamie, all I can do when I read this book is just devour it. I am thinking I am going to have to just let go and read through it without trying to be helpful at all. Then I can screw my head back on my shoulders and give it another read. This might be the only way I will be helpful.
So, yeah. Jamie: I love your book. I can’t even wait to finish it.

That sounds so exciting! I’m going to check her out. Maybe when I get further along in my edits you can read my book, too (if you have time, of course)!
Absolutely! I would LOVE to. Just let me know when it is ready.
I think that is a good plan. I always figured that if I beta read something, I would have to read it twice to really have feedback. (BTW, I rented the first ssn of Friends, and the fourth ssn of DC today. Thought of you.
)
Hehe…that’s awesome!
I had a similar problem. I volunteered to beta, and I loved the book, and I took notes–but I had a family crisis and went a week without reading or writing anything. I felt so guilty that I never responded, and now I keep following the writer on twitter and on her blog, but I don’t comment or anything because I have this fear she must hate me.
I doubt she hates you! She might be beyond the beta stage now and not need the feedback anymore, but I would send the comments along anyway.
AWWWW!!!!
LOVE THIS POST
Probably not as much as I LOVE your book! I can’t wait to go finish it after work.
